SUBTLE BY DESIGN: FERRETTI YACHTS 860

The Ferretti Yachts 860 premiered at the Cannes Yachting Festival, subtly evolving the shipyard’s sophisticated flybridge ethos.

Coco Chanel once famously said: “Fashion changes, but style endures.” As yachting and its owners evolve, shipyards often follow disruptive trends or seek new directions in design.

Yacht concepts are getting more adventurous, catering to the new breed of owner who wants to take on the Northwest Passage, or explore Norwegian fjords. But what about the traditional flybridge owner, one who just wants to enjoy a sunny weekend on the sea and maybe pop ashore at a top-class restaurant? This is where Ferretti Yachts excels, producing a range of flybridge motoryachts created purely for enhancing an owner’s luxury lifestyle. It may well be subtle, but the new Ferretti Yachts 860 also shows it can be innovative, too.

SUBTLE INNOVATION

Launched at the Cannes Yachting Festival, the Ferretti Yachts 860 has successfully evolved from its predecessor, the 850. Visually, one of the main differences is the treatment of the bulwarks, as they now feature generous cut-outs. These large openings aren’t just for show though, as the introduction of full-height salon windows (and glass fashion plates) mean that guests can now have an interrupted view of the ocean from the comfort of the salon sofa.

INTERCONNECTED

The interconnection between the 860’s exterior and interior spaces is all part of the yacht’s evolution. Planned by the Strategic Product Committee chaired by Piero Ferrari and the Ferretti Group Engineering Department, with exterior design by Filippo Salvetti and interiors by Ideaeitalia, the 860’s guests are never more than a glance away from the sea.

Working together, the teams echoed the exterior colourways with the interior, creating a cohesive partnership of finishes and furnishings, designed for conviviality and relaxation. Comfort is another big priority, with new solutions introduced that reduce vibrations and noise.

JUST LIKE HOME

Ideaeitalia has taken Ferretti Yachts’ ‘Just Like Home’ concept and pushed it forward, blending styles and trends to increase the 860’s mix of comfort, Italianness, timeless design and craftsmanship.

Owners have the choice of two moods – Classic and Contemporary; the former featuring darker, warmer colours and striking contrasts, and the latter with paler, cooler colours characterised by tone-on-tone shades through to total white. Again, these colourways perfectly fit with Ferretti Yachts’ flybride DNA – it’s all about living the luxury life at sea, under the sun.

FINISHING TOUCHES

For weekends away, the 860 features a generously sized, full-beam owner’s cabin amidships, with a double guest cabin starboard and a twin guest cabin to port. The lower deck is completed by a large VIP double cabin – not that guests will be spending too much time below deck, as the 860’s charm is all on top.

For saltwater enthusiasts, the generous beach area has two uses; firstly as a great place to enjoy the sun and secondly, it can be lowered directly into the sea, allowing the Williams Jet 395 tender and a two-seat aqua bike to be launched directly from the garage.

Finally, there’s the flybridge. Being the Ferretti Yachts raison d’être, this 44 square metre area can be furnished with freestanding elements in addition to a large, multi-function bar unit, a dinette seating up to eight people and, for the first time on a Ferretti Yachts, an optional jacuzzi in the stern.

Other features include a two-tone hard top available in three different configurations: fixed glass, opening glass or with shading blades and a ceramic coated, anti scratch handrail.

With performance courtesy of a pair of MAN v12s, the Ferretti Yachts 860 goes as good as she looks, allowing the captain and guests to make the dash to the next sun-drenched bay quickly, safely and in total luxury.
