LINX TENDERS

LINX Tenders has revealed its LINX 30, a foil-assisted catamaran designed with the emirates in mind.

Yachts

Given the beachfront lifestyle in the UAE and the presence of enthusiastic boaters with substantial disposable income, it comes as no surprise that shipyards worldwide are keen to make an impression here.

LINX Tenders is one such company, as the Palma de Mallorca-based luxury tender manufacturer has built the second unit of its LINX 30 specifically for the UAE market.

Mark Branagh, CEO of LINX Tenders, explains: “We specialise in crafting tailor-made boats, and for this second unit, we have tailored the boat to perfectly suit its intended purpose as a dayboat in the UAE. The Middle East region has caught the attention of the yachting community, and we are excited to be a part of this flourishing market. Our foiling catamaran solution holds tremendous potential for various applications in this dynamic and growing area.”

BUILT FOR FUN

The first BYD Group-designed LINX 30 was commissioned as a tender for a 63-metre explorer, but hull number two is all about fun, functionality and lifestyle. “Although this second unit will look very similar to the first one, we have re-engineered some components and adjusted the production method to better suit its intended use,” commented Commercial Director Luke Hendy. “The first LINX 30 was constructed entirely from carbon fibre to adhere to weight limitations on the mother vessel’s crane, with a primary focus on simplicity for easy maintenance and repairs, even in remote locations.

“For this second unit, designed as a dayboat, our focus is more on speed and manoeuvrability. The materials chosen are a mix of carbon fibre and glass fibre, resulting in slightly heavier boats that can accommodate more powerful engines and overall deliver better performance.”

Performance is enhanced by the foil-type system, which provides longitudinal stability while reducing fuel consumption by up to 40%. The LINX 30’s three foils are relatively subtle compared to other ‘out of water’ systems, with the main foil located between the two hulls. This helps lift the boat, thereby reducing drag, while two smaller inner hull- mounted aft foils provide downforce for stability. “The improvement in stability and dryness is so remarkable that during sea trials, we asked people to guess the speed, and every guess was 10 knots less than the actual speed,” added Hendy. “The ride is so smooth and stable that 20 knots on board the LINX 30 feels like 10 knots.”

LINX 30, KEY POINTS:

• 9.5m LOA Foil assisted catamaran
• Electric operated beachlanding system
• Castoldi JET propulsion suitable for shallow waters
• Dynamic positioning and Smart Anchor system
• Base price 1,12m€

LIFESTYLE EQUIPPED

Safe speed, comfort, and manoeuvrability make the 30 a perfect day boat, but adding in its electrically operated bow door creates even more lifestyle possibilities. Combined with a Castoldi JET system, the LYNX can venture into shallow waters, making it ideal for a beach landing, typical of one of the Dubai Marina Yacht Club’s Rallies to the World Islands. Additionally, the opening bow door along with the 30’s Dynamic Positioning and Smart anchor system transform it into a safe and stable dive boat.

Once the second unit arrives in the UAE very soon, LINX will be thinking even bigger as Hendy concludes: “We’re working on several enquiries from other clients at the moment, including different length versions such as the LINX 40; a Linx tender that’s solar powered; an exciting 11-metre Limo and we also have a client who has expressed interest in going fully electric.”
