The car brains at the Bentley HQ in Crewe, England may have celebrated by indulging in an extra biscuit with their morning cup of tea when the news came through that they had claimed the prestigious tagline of ‘the world’s fastest production SUV’.
Designed, engineered and handcrafted in Great Britain, the new Bentley Speed has a top speed of 306 km/h and conquers 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, edging out the Lamborghini Urus. The original Bentayga, launched in 2017, had a top speed of ‘only’ 301 km/h.
Keeping a check on all that beef emanating from the Speed’s 6 litre, W12, 626 horsepower engine are ceramic brakes that are the largest and most powerful ever fitted to a Bentley.
A new tailgate spoiler, Speed badging and swooshes around the door and door grab add some design flair, while inside the cabin features the first use Alcantara in a Bentayga.
The Speed will go on sale later this year, with an AED 950,000 price tag. That extra biscuit has been well-earned.
