RSY’S 38M: THE EXPLORER, THAT ISN’T
RSY’S 38m EXP has superyacht looks and a range of 5,000 nautical miles.

When Rosetti Superyachts held the keel-laying of its 38m EXP back in May 2019, the yachting industry had a fair idea of how it was going to look – and it wasn’t anything like your traditional explorer.
Often in the business, concept images can be a little exaggerated, and the original designs for the EXP showed what appeared to be a superyacht, albeit with a design that hinted to a lot of internal volumes.
EXPLORER-STYLE
Rosetti Superyachts is part of the Rosetti Marino Group, a key player in the construction of high-tech vessels for the offshore/onshore oil and gas industry – a company with a deep understanding of range and volume. Here in the historical San Vitale shipyard, located in Ravenna, over 65,000 square metres of the area is dedicated to shipbuilding.
Founded in 2017, RSY builds its superyachts next to eco-friendly diesel-electric/hybrid and LNG-fuelled ferries and tugboats as well as Platform Supply Vessels. It is no real surprise to find that the RSY 38m has a generous gross tonnage of 432 GT. She also has huge amounts of useable space (over 700 square metres) which is divided almost equally between the interior and exterior.
432 Gross tonnage: With the volume of a much larger yacht, the 38m Explorer is ready to travel long distances in comfort.
Hydro Tec is responsible for the 38m’s exterior lines and naval architecture (plus the interior layout) and have given her a bold, masculine look, but with a definite look of a superyacht. At the request of the owners, the designer made the windows and openings as large as possible, which adds to the graceful style. The main deck salon, in particular, has large aft windows and sliding doors that offer wide sea views. In addition, two large side sliding doors provide access to the cutaway bulwarks on the side walkways.
“The exterior design is a reflection of the yacht’s functionality and reliability, which were the key priorities for the owners,” says Sergio Cutolo, founder of Hydro Tec. “Special attention has also been paid to the crew area and to the hold volumes, both essential requirements for long voyages far from ports or marinas.”

EXPLORER SPACE
As expected the 38m’s interior is vast, but again, it’s been designed with pure luxury in mind by Burdisso Capponi Yachts & Design. Based in the same Ravenna district as the shipyard, the studio was able to work closely with RSY, creating an overall colourway dominated by light Creta oak, dark smoked oak and turquoise detailing. Alcoves and niches have been created on request of the experienced Owners to house various works of art while the lighting design combines diffused shades in general with focused cones enhancing dedicated areas.
“Following the initial meetings, it became evident that the staircase would become the centrepiece of the project as the central functional and stylistic core with a character that is carried throughout the whole interior,” commented BurdissoCapponi. “In fact, the stairway is conceived as an architectural base that becomes a recurring element of the project, as does the interplay of white lacquer, light and dark woods.”
Strong design: Sharp and modern exterior lines along with a straight bow characterise this 38m Explorer.
EXPLORER RANGE
Certainly living up to its EXP name is the 38m’s range. At 10 knots, the explorer can travel 5,000 nautical miles, making it a true ocean wanderer. Powered by twin MAN D2868 LE 425 engines, the RSY’s round-bilge displacement hull with its bulbous bulb and CMC stabilisers is optimised to cruise at up to 11 knots with a max speed of 13.5 knots. But with a long range cruiser such as this, outright speed is not the point.
Interior details: Every detail has been defined by the Owner and designed by leading architects to exploit and enhance the available spaces.

CONCLUSION
The RSY 38m EXP is not your normal explorer. Sure, she has the range, but that autonomy is mixed with an interior style that is pure luxury. In fact, her overall ambience is that of a much larger megayacht.

Launched at the Cannes Yachting Festival, the 38m EXP was named Emocean before heading to the Palm Beach boat show.
