The majestic Peruvian Amazon, a landmass covering 60% of the country, yet only accommodating 5% of its population, is home to more species of plants and animals than any other terrestrial ecosystem on the planet. Home to the largest number of bird species in the world and the third-largest number of mammals, the jungle and river combo has long been a source of curiosity, and with Emirates now offering direct flights to four cities in South America, visiting the life force that is the Amazon region has never been so accessible.
Offering 3-, 4- and 7-day on-board excursions, Delfin offers an immersive rainforest experience, while simultaneously treating you to the highest levels of luxury available in the Amazonian area. With a capacity for up to 44 guests, the newly launched Delfin III, a sleek and stylish riverboat with 22 suites, is the largest cruise of the Delfin collection. Whilst the first deck features eight suites complete with floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows as well as two spacious Corner Suites facing the front of the ship, the second deck offers 10 Upper Suites and the largest of all, the Owner’s Suite, a luxurious space with a 180-degree wrap-around views, free-standing bathtub and spacious living area.
The top deck features beautiful indoor and outdoor lounge areas, as well as a sundeck complete with plunge pool, spa and gym, and of course a Pisco-packed bar. Offering an all-inclusive experience for all onboard, the ship has been beautifully finished with the finest locally sourced materials from hardwood floors and furniture to handmade Peruvian art and crafts from surrounding villages. Peruvian meals are served three times a day in the Andes Dining Room, offering local dishes infused with flavours and inspiration from the rainforest around you – expect roasted meats, lightly grilled fish, fresh vegetables, sun-ripened tropical fruits, and decadent desserts.
Two excursions are arranged by the team per day, normally lasting between two to three hours – it’s these activities that make this Amazonian experience so special – the sights and sounds are something completely unique to the area. Whilst the jungle walks introduce you to the local wildlife, including indigenous frogs, tarantulas, snakes, insects, wild cats, and more, the daily skiff explorations introduce you to the abundance of birds and river life.
Professional guides from the region accompany you on each adventure and help spot the unique species only found in the jungle. Prepare to come face to face with the spectacular pink dolphin, the famous piranha, the three-toed sloth, and the Cayman crocodile to name a few.
The team also leads daily cultural performances, lively discussions with expert naturalists, and Peruvian cooking classes in the Canopy Lounge as well as the occasional nighttime excursion to visit the local Shayman or view the Milky Way in all its nighttime glory from the comforts of the skiff.
